Seattle Trip Day 1! San Francisco

This has been a fabulous past week, crammed full with so much that I totally forgot to update along the way. Let's fix that!

The first day of our trip started early with a 6:30am sprint to the airport. Our flight was delayed about an hour when we got there, so thankfully we got to relax a little before we flew off to San Fran. We had a 7 hour layover, which let us run into the city and play for a few hours before getting to Seattle that evening!

Our city jaunt included a stop at the Ben & Jerry's in the basement of the Union Square Macy's for an ice cream brunch, as you do on vacation, a quick walk into Chinatown for pork buns from the Good Mong Kok dim sum bakery (which is our favorite), then a jaunt to the pier to eat the pork buns, and then a trip back into the city to The Mill for artisan toast (yes, you read that correctly).

Chinatown, so bright!

When we were in SF last, we were on a hunt for excellent pork buns. We tried a few places, but this was our favorite. We initially passed it up because of the really long line outside of the bakery (possibly the only organized line we stood in in Chinatown), but it has a line for a reason... because all of its baked goods are awesome. We also had some har gow, sui mai, and jin deui, all fabulous.

We enjoyed Lombard Street from a distance!

This place was EXACTLY as hip as you would expect
And artisan toast is, in fact... toasted bread. It WAS particularly excellent toast. Cinnamon with brown sugar on the left, honey on the right.
SF was full of fabulous people watching as usual. On our way into the city on the BART, we encountered a couple who stepped onto the train. The woman quickly said she thought it was the wrong train, and the man insisted it was the right one. She stepped off of the train and told him to follow. He reached through the door (still on the train) to grab her hand to pull her back on, insisting it was the right one, and just as he did so the doors closed and he had to jerk his arm back, him on the train, she in the station. He was so flabbergasted and insisted to himself firmly after "It WAS the right train", then proceeded to ride the train the rest of the way into the city. It was like watching a soap opera right in front of our very eyes... of course we hope they found each other again someday.

We hooked our plane up to Seattle, enjoyed a quick 30 minute ride into the city (for $3! WHAT) and passed out pretty much immediately when we got into our hotel room. Excellent start to an excellent vacation.
